Gert Emmens and Ruud Heij have developed a deservedly high reputation amongst Berlin School fans. After their departure to experiment with ambient music in their last album ‘Signals’ they have returned to sequences big style with ‘Urban Decay’. They tend to be more melodic than most Berlin School acts and the same can be said here. Sequences nestle alongside rhythms and sometimes powerful lead lines. Apparently six of the seven numbers are studio versions of live tracks and it shows, as these leads would have been very impressive in a concert setting. Existing Emmens and Heij fans should certainly check this out but it should also widen their following to new converts.
