Numina biography
Jesse Sola - Born in 1971

Numina (latin word referring to the voluntary spiritual side of existence) is an organic ambient project founded by the american keyboardist and sound researcher Jesse Sola. Currently, Numina has released albums on his own Numinamusic label as well as Gestalt Records, Hypnos, Dark Duck Records and been featured several times on the syndicated radio program Music From The Hearts of Space. Jesse Sola also collaborated with Stephen Philips / caul on several albums.

Nunima provides grandiose, majestic, oceanic and shimmering electronic soundscapes. The compositions are focused on slow moving droning textures, trancey like harmonies, elegiac building crescendo (...) This project represents impressionist and cinematic ambient music in a classy vein.

5 stars Flowing structures over a windy sky.

Numina (Jesse Sola) + Zero Ohms (Richard Roberts) release this 2015 electronic collaboration titled "Broken Stars Through Brilliant Clouds" on the venerable Spotted Peccary label, as the label itself advertises. Numina is no stranger to me, I have been following this one man project for a while, on the other hand, I have never heard Zero Ohms releases.

Well, this collaboration to put it simply is a Masterpiece.

Expect winds, all kind of SONIC winds. Flowing breezes, hard ones, showering ones, nocturnal as bright daylight ones and always constant and ever seducing, creative and multi-colored ones.

The best of the electronic prog/environmental worlds (like the 70´s TD or some Schulze´s slower paced works without rhythmic pulses or their later silly melody lines ) and the always underrated, (here in PA ), Ambient tagging (Robert Fripp, Brian Eno, Fripp & Eno, Steve Roach, Alio Die, etc, etc).

A MUST!

*****5 PA stars.

4 stars Jesse Sola's, aka NUMINA, 2005 record "The Haunting Silence", consolidates this musician's own, self-aquired, musical language.

Of course this does not mean, his previous works are irrelevant, but the route to this level of self enlightment, as to become recognizable among the 100s of musicians who are producing "Ambiental/Electronics". Small feat! To bring the attention to this guy's work, I will try to explain which are the "big" detours this musician employed to do such a thing.

NUMINA's music is intense, yet friendly, not meaning silly of course. As a never ceasing blow of different winds simmultaneously blowing with different "colors" and textures. His melodic lines work upfront and as background. The sound does not hide its electronic intentions, yet it is far from being experimental and above everything else, the songs themselves are hypnotic and addictive, once inside, it is hard to leave. Why? , well for starters, the intelligent distribution of the songs, the magnificent song writing each song displays by themself and as a whole. Their progression is felt as an evolution to different levels or "environments", as they succeed one another, and yet still unique to its previous and posterior siblings, every "new" song sounds fresh and novel. The songwriting in general, is intense, without never stopping to be "Progressive Electronic/Ambiental", even the "dark" kind.

Well deserved, ****4 "will fit in your Prog collection" PA stars.
