Gordzilla This is a really good album of melodic ambient/electronic/space music from Mike Ystad, formerly of the excellent post-rock/ambient band Lights Out Asia. It features a great mix of drifting beatless ambient music and sequencer driven sounds. Occasionally, it harkens back to the Lights Out Asia sound, on tracks like "Pillars of Stars (Part. II)" It's deserving of more attention. Highly recommended.

Galileo Dreams presents Space|Ambient Release "Hymns to Fading Lights" from project Stars On A Black Sea.

Stars on a Black Sea is the work of Milwaukee-based American electronic musician Mike Ystad.

A founding member of post-rock / electronic trio Lights Out Asia, Mike has been active in a scene known for blending many genres and textures together into an experimental whole. With Stars on a Black Sea, this experimental attitude is furthered in songs that favor the unstructured free spaces of ambient, the hypnotic repetition and evolution of classic Berlin School electronic music, and the dark textures and moods of soundtrack and film music.

Ystad's 2016 debut "Hymns to Fading Lights" (Galileo Dreams) features hypnotic washes of sound, dark melodies, and sparkling synths that combine to take the listener out of their familiar surroundings and into brand new spaces.

When Mike isn't making music, he dabbles in photography and rides motorcycles.
