AndySynth Superb sequencers and melody throughout the whole set, with some great solo work. Always a pleasure to listen to! Favorite track: Arabella's Trident (Sample).

synthforever WOW, I love this, another keyboard god, so very rich and complex, wonderful colors, textures, building musical castles in the air to be so enjoyed, then gently taking them down, sequences are really nice, very enjoyed !!! Favorite track: Freak of Geometry (Sample).

about

***Note: This is a 7 track album, over 60 mins in length. Only track samples are viewable - the full album tracks will appear as a bonus when you purchase the album (which is why you see 14 tracks not 7). Cover artwork is included.

Well, another Hampshire Jam has come and gone and
another chapter of this great event is written. The
opening slot of any such event is key but there are few
safer hands than Stephan Whitlan. The recording here is
a faithful memento of the performance, with plenty of
audience participation and a sonorous soundboard
recording courtesy of the oft-overlooked HJ stalwart Mr
Tony Sawford. The opening "icebreaker" from M.C. Dave
Law was a genuine "oversight" but somehow added to
the vitality and fun of the day. Stephan's grasp of
melody and sequential counterpoint is portrayed
beautifully in these half-dozen tracks and continue the
rich vein of releases which fans have long hoped for
from this extraordinary synth talent. Stephan had at
least 3 hats on during the day. Artist; Stage Manager;
Sound Engineer. It's a recipe for a fulsome catalogue of
challenges punctuated with the occasional disaster. As
it happens though, it went like clockwork. "It'll make
sleeve notes a problem for the next release" Stephan
ryely commented. Which is why yours truly has stepped
in. While switching various lights on and off during the
performance (and trying my best not to switch off
Stephan's entire rig, or leave him "in the dark") I often
caught myself basking in the glory of the many
highpoints that punctuate this set. Culminating in the
encore to beat all encores. He may be "travelling light"
these days in terms of gear, but his sensational music is
undiminished. You owe it to yourself to catch a Stephan
Whitlan live performance at least once in your life.
Until you do, here's another glimpse of how good it is.

Stalwart of the "UK Synth Scene", Stephan's multifarious involvement in anything and everything "UK Electronica", "Location", or "Hampshire" related belies the fact that in his own right he is a virtuoso synth performer without peer. Here on Stephan's "official" Bandcamp site you will find his definitive works. ... more
