„Nie ma ciszy w bloku” – brzmiał refren jednego z pierwszych w Polsce rapowanych utworów grupy Deuter, wydanego jeszcze w czasach późnego PRL-u. Jednak w tamtych czasach blokową ciszę rzadko zakłócały dźwięki syntezatorów. Inaczej niż na Zachodzie. Tam lata 80. to czas umasowienia technologii syntezy dźwięku, wcześniej niedostępnej, bo zbyt drogiej dla amatorów.
W tym czasie w Wielkiej Brytanii syntezatory, tańsze i produkowane w większych partiach, trafiają w ręce wychowanej na punk rocku młodzieży. W Stanach Zjednoczonych pierwsze samplery wykorzystuje już hip-hop, seryjnie produkowane automaty perkusyjne i syntezatory basowe Rolanda za chwile trafią do młodzieży dorastającej na przedmieściach wielkich miast, powstaną nurty techno i acid house.
W komunistycznej, będącej częścią bloku wschodniego Polsce z dostępem do instrumentów elektronicznych jest ciągle słabiej. Znaleźć je można w studiach nagraniowych państwowego radia i telewizji, pojedyncze urządzenia przywożą zachodni dyplomaci lub pracujący na zagranicznych kontraktach Polacy. Można też "zdobyć" egzemplarze radzieckiej produkcji – od stacjonujących w Polsce żołnierze Armii Czerwonej.
Na albumie „Echo wielkiej płyty” odnajdziemy wiele zapomnianych lub nawet nigdy wcześniej nie wydanych, a przy tym oryginalnych i charakterystycznych dla polskiej sceny elektronicznej, nagrań tworzonych w połowie lat 80. Trudnych do zaszufladkowania, zawieszonych pomiędzy nurtem el-muzyki, jak ją w Polsce nazywano, a muzyką użytkową. Często sprowadzonych tylko do roli tła w programach telewizyjnych poświęconych nauce czy komputerom.
Pierwsza kompilacja w dorobku labelu The Very Polish Cut Outs, to próba przybliżenia słuchaczom na całym świecie kilku mniej znanych, niektórych całkowicie dziś zapomnianych, twórców polskiej muzyki elektronicznej, którzy w latach 80. pomimo ograniczonego dostępu do sprzętu, tworzyli niezwykle ciekawą i różnorodną muzykę. Wszystkie utwory zostały odnalezione i wyselekcjonowane przez Maciej Zambona oraz Norberta Borzyma, którzy są również współodpowiedzialni za wydanie w 2020 roku niesamowitego albumu “Dotyk” Renaty Lewandowskiej.
Premiera płyty, która odbędzie się w drugiej połowie maja, będzie również zwieńczeniem ich ponad dwuletniej letniej archiwalnej pracy jaką włożyli w przygotowanie tej kompilacji na podwójnym winylu, w limitowanym nakładzie 800 kopii.

The 1980s in the West saw the widespread use of synthesized sound technology, previously largely unobtainable for amateurs because of its price. At that time in Great Britain synthesizers – cheaper and produced in bigger batches – found their way into the hands of youth raised on punk rock. In the US, the first samplers were already being used in hip-hop, Roland's mass-produced drum machines and bass synthesizers were about to target suburban adolescents, while techno and acid house were emerging. In communist Poland, then part of the Eastern Bloc, access to electronic instruments was still a different story. They were mostly only to be found in the recording studios of the state-run radio and television, some units were imported by western diplomats or Poles working on foreign contracts, and Soviet-made instruments were brought by soldiers of the Red Army stationed in Poland.
The album titled "Echo wielkiej płyty" (eng. The Echoes of Plattenbau) features a number of long-forgotten or never before released recordings of electronic music created in the mid 1980s. These are unique and characteristic of the Polish scene, yet difficult to categorize, often hovering between the world-chasing trend of "el-music", as it was dubbed in Poland, and muzak, often reduced to merely a background role in television programmes on science and computers.
The first compilation in the catalog of The Very Polish Cut Outs label is surely an attempt to acquaint listeners all over the world with some of the less known or completely forgotten representatives of the Polish electronic music scene, who in the 80s, despite limited access to equipment, created truly fascinating and diverse compositions. All pieces were dug up and hand-picked by Maciej Zambon and Norbert Borzym, both of whom are also responsible for Renata Lewandowska's amazing album "Dotyk", released last year.
The album' s launch scheduled for mid-May will be the crowning moment of their over 2-year-long archival work put into the compilation. This double vinyl album will be released in a limited edition of 800 copies. Artwork designed by Bartosz Szymkiewicz.

The first track is a bit of an outlier, perhaps connecting back to earlier albums where jazz foundations lead the way, before going all out berserk with the beats, beats, and beats. Bass and electronics are now the mainstays over the hip-hop influenced rhythms. But the horns are still layered back in with style. I initially passed this over, but the Szlam / Ścieki tracks blew my socks off and in desperation for more, I was led back to this. I can't wait to see where Błoto go next. rvss.eel
