Active dark filaments: Immense streams of plasma suspended above the surface of the sun slowly evolving and undergoing cycles of destruction and rebirth. From Earth, they appear as regions of metamorphosis on the otherwise placid surface of the sun.
The music of Active Dark Filament (bassist Jon Ersatz) is in the same spirit, an electronic journey to both earthly and remote corners of the imagination. Lyrical melodies drift along on currents of electronic percussion and textures. Dark, symphonic fabrics calling to mind the African continent, sonorous bell-like timbres, and reverberant sequenced patterns are all part of the interwoven compositions.
At times introspective, at times ebullient, the music is influenced by “classic” electronic artists such as Tangerine Dream, Klaus Schulze, Isao Tomita and Vangelis, as well as jazz fusion and progressive rock music. The solo work of Edgar Froese is a big influence.
