In a not too distant future, the merging of biologics and electronics has become a reality. For Evelyn Taylor, that reality has awakened within her a desire to experience the world through a technologically enhanced consciousness; a novel experience where one is no longer encumbered by external hardware. It is now possible, although still in the beta-testing stage, for the capabilities of the personal computer, the Internet, and the cellular phone to be integrated with the brain and become a part of the person. As Evelyn prepares to undergo the maiden procedure for merging tech with her person, she is presented with an introduction to the process.

Some time later, Evelyn awakens in a strange setting, surrounded by foreign people, objects, and visuals. She realizes that the procedure is over and her body and her mind are acclimating to the components that have been implanted into her brain. The present people, surroundings, and places she is encountering are actually a hybrid composite of reality and artificial reality in a struggle against each other. Evelyn must learn to control how her conscious mind adapts and perceives both realities and thus she begins the process of orientation.

It takes some time adjusting, but Evelyn begins to adapt to her newly-advanced way of life. She is now functioning at peak mental acuity and has learned to swiftly access any piece of information via a simple thought. Life begins an interesting turn for her, yet her dreams are becoming darker and more vivid than before her upgrade. It seems another part of her personality is becoming its own character and creating an alter conscious world where she starts to encounter twisted bits of programming. She resolves to face these new challenges as she musters her strength and encounters the first helix.

Upon exiting the first helix, she finds herself mentally exhausted. In this state of weakness, with her defenses down, the novelty of this new way of life has worn off and Evelyn becomes discouraged. She wonders if she made a poor decision and doubts this advanced technology is a benefit. In this state, Evelyn is caught off guard as enemies of particulate matter, bits and bytes of foreign code, begin to attack.

Wounded and fatigued from her battle with corrupted code, Evelyn slowly slips away from outside contact with the human world. She closes herself off mentally and emotionally and opts to withdraw from any and all forms of human contact. In this isolationistic state, Evelyn is vulnerable to even greater technological attacks and wonders if she will be strong enough to survive.

Knowing an even more oppressive and ominous challenge lies ahead, Evelyn must find a way to abate her fear and doubt. She slowly and methodically rewrites specific sub-routines within her programming to better equip her for the next challenge. As the clock syncs current for premium optimization, Evelyn finds an inner peace and determined resolve to move forward.

As she enters the second helix, Evelyn begins a disturbing, dark journey into the deepest parts of electronic subconscious space. For a time, she holds her own against hypnotic, pulsing tech that seeks to completely pull her from conscious existence into a permanent state of artificial reality. The encounter drives forth relentlessly and, over time, begins to infect her mind.

As she departs from the second helix, her grip on reality has seriously weakened. Evelyn can no longer distinguish the real from the electronically created and finds herself struggling to live. Her mind floods with non-logisubconscious thought, and she becomes desperate for a way to gain stability before losing all grip on reality.

Amidst her attempts to retain and clasp on conscious thought and the outside, physical world, Evelyn unknowingly allowed herself to be invaded by a most sinister infection. Virorum Malus, an invasive, malevolent virus, has infiltrated all parts of her electronic components and the malware begins to erode Evelyn's rational mind. To the outside world, she is completely catatonic; unable to move or communicate with other human beings. Her physical body is breaking down; internal organs are ceasing to work and her nervous and cardiovascular systems are barely functioning as the virus assumes complete control.

At the conclusion of our present story, Evelyn experiences one final, brief moment of lucidity. In this moment, she is able to secretly clone her digital fingerprint and hide the data deep within the darkest regions of the digital universe. The virus, unaware of Evelyn's action, assumes it is being successful in eliminating her foreign, human presence in their technological world. As Evelyn's physical self expires and she departs from our world, her digital information separates into unrecognizable bytes of code and finds itself descending toward the third helix. Once deep inside, her bytes of data will secretly regroup, assemble, and she will begin her next adventure at war with the code.
