Kebu is a electronicmusic project by the musician Sebastian Teir from Finnland. He is a keyboard wizard who creates new instrumental synthesizer music influenced by the kind that was made in the 70s and 80s. Artists like Jean Michel Jarre, Vangelis, and Mike Oldfield are his inspiration.
"To Jupiter and Back" is the debut album by Finnish musician Sebastian "Kebu" Teir. As a matter of fact, it made quite a surprising and succesful entrance at E-Day 2012, where the nicely designed, factory-pressed cd was offered for only 10 euro.
Fully executed on analogue equipment and recorded in the old-fashioned way, using only sequencers, tape machines and analog mixers, Mr Teir has managed to give the album’s music and overall warm, deep and organic sound. The energetic outcome is also meant as a tribute to some (personal) electronic gods of synthesis that the composer grew up with: Jean Michael Jarre, Vangelis and Oldfield.
The music itself hits the melodic E-highway in a fresh and highly accessible manner. Especially Jarre’s "Oxygene" and "Equinoxe" have been a big inspiration for the 11 catchy, rhythmic songs, although Jarre’s "Rendez Vous" lies at the core of "Interlude 4". I’m personally most fond of the vibrant fifth track "Just Another Space Oddessey" (hello Jarre’s "Orient Express"!) offering some excellent spatial sequencing and bass lines.
All in all, if you’re fond of melodic, vintage analogue action and the retro music of Mr Jarre, Kebu’s "To Jupiter and Back" will be right up you alley. - Sonic Immersion Review Facebook | WebSite TRACKLIST:
