Robert Darken Fudali started his solo project Lord Wind back in 1994, and now after six years of waiting since his last record “Atlantean Monument” he releases “Ales Stenar ”. The album is entitled after an old archaeological monument in Sweden, a stone ship consisting of fifty-nine stones, built during the Iron age. Darken hails from Poland, so this choice of title must stand as a symbol for the deep roots in paganism given voice in Lord Wind . The qualities of “Ales Stenar” are of cinematic proportions as well as spiritual. From first minute the feeling is completely epic, painted in many layers on a deep canvas of synthesizers, choirs and the deep murmur of drums. The fiddle, played by guest musician Alruna, revives this combination in a remarkable way. It gives voice to a playful spirit, spreading a bright light in the deep mystical atmosphere. Inspiration-wise this album spans from Scandinavia, to Spanish “El Cid”, and “Cult of Seth” hailing from Egypt. Lord Wind’s way of blending instruments from different cultures gives a feeling that this is an attempt to capture the universal search for wisdom, rather than focusing on one path towards it. The mixture is quite to my taste, rich in spices, feelings of wonder and adventure. Always there is a beat tempting eager feet to dance, spiralling tunes moving towards trance. This is music that gives strength, no matter your beliefs. There is a sense of completion in this bold, heroic glory, making me think “ Ales Stenar ” might be the peak of a long magical journey. It brings scenes of wiccan circles, mysterious bazaars and lost temples to my mind, creating an independent mythology both vivid and rich. To be blown away from the shackles of this world is easy when accompanied by songs like these. Though, I would not say this is music for meditation, but I guess that thought is evoked in many by the term spiritual. Rather I use it for moments of crafting, friendly conversation or feasting. The power hidden in this creation at least not calls to me to sit down and be still, but to enjoy the movement of life itself. MySpace TRACKLIST: 01. Ales Stenar 02. Taken by your Eyes 03.
