Detlev Schmidtchen was a member of Eloy from 1976 to 1979 first as a second guitarist, but subsequently as keyboardist. Leaving the band, he and ex-Eloy drummer Jürgen Rosenthal formed the group Ego on the Rocks releasing a single album in 1981. In 2007 Schmidtchen released a series of concept albums joined again by Jürgen Rosenthal.
