Beautiful, droning ambient music from deep space, great for fans of the ambient genre. Redshift is the new offering from Robin Danderkindt. More droning, slowly shifting, beautiful ambient tones from this artist who has developed a cult following in the past couple of years. Danderkindt uses predominantly vintage analog synthesizers to create his soundscapes, with this one featuring the Oberheim OB-8, Arp Axxe, Rhodes Chroma Polaris and Moog Voyager among others. Fans of Brian Eno's ambient work as well as 1970's era Vangelis and Tangerine Dream, will find much to love in Danderkindt's sound. The two part title track, "Redshift" starts things off at the edge of our expanding universe. The title is a reference to the perceived red-shifted wavelengths of distant galaxies as they move away from us, indicating that our universe is still expanding at a rapid rate, a process set in motion 13.8 billion years ago with the Big Bang. Two of the other tracks, "Fizeau" and "Vespo Slipher," are references to scientists whose work contributed to this understanding of the universe. Red Shift is at times cold, remote and distant, with computerized blips and bleeps splashing across the cosmic tapestry of sound, and yet also features some beautiful melodic moments, particularly in the album's final track, "Vesto Slipher."
