п»їWhether you’re self-employed or you work for someone else, your inner critic can deflate your business confidence and success like a sharp tack destroys a balloon. It can be very difficult to focus on your strategic plan when you’re bombarded by mental chatter like, “You don’t know what you’re doing” or “You’ll never succeed.”

One of the most common stumbling blocks to achievement in any field is resisting your inner critic instead of discovering its innate value. You’ll gain freedom when you discover the truth about your inner critic and turn it into a loving, supportive internal coach.
When you hear putdowns like “You’re not good enough” or “You’ll fail,” it’s difficult to imagine that your inner critic has been slaving away, nonstop, for most of your life . . . with your best interests in mind. What? Your inner critic is misguided, but its intentions are so pure and positive that most people eventually tear up with gratitude once they fully understand this puzzled part of themselves.
You gave birth to your inner critic in early childhood. You very cleverly (but unconsciously) designed it as a protective shield to avoid adult disapproval. Your inner guardian held you back with messages like, “You aren’t powerful enough to do what you want.”
Children have many limitations. Even though you’ve grown up, your confused, strong-willed inner critic has no understanding of your true capabilities. Today, your negative voice continues to hold you back with a barrage of dis-empowering comments and emotions, from shame and anxiety to self-sabotage.
Until you re-educate this extremely powerful part of yourself, your internal censor will continue its struggle to protect you from harm, disappointment, disapproval and failure by putting you down. You’ll feel unworthy, helpless, fatigued and possibly even depressed.

After you explore the myths about your inner critic and you comprehend its potentially positive power, you can easily and rapidly transform your inner censor into an internal employee who will tirelessly work 24/7 on your behalf. Here are a few examples of how my clients transformed their inner critics so they could enjoy the high achievement they were craving.
• One client who had been afraid to go forward in her business discovered the power of using multisensory breathing that targeted her belly (her power center). This allowed her to refocus her critic. She reprogrammed it to help her become her most authentic and powerful self.
• Clients who were fed up with slow achievement learned how to identify and then easily omit very specific self-talk that had been empowering their inner critics. After learning how our brains interpret certain phrases like “I’ll try to do that soon,” clients whose inner critics had been badgering them with nasty comments made dramatic positive shifts. п»їThroughout my career in the military I have come across a variety of tall tales about eating and exercise. The extent of misinformation is so great that you’d think we were dealing with Cold War propaganda. If a lie is told frequently enough it is treated as the truth.
Seven Myths about Eating and Weight Loss
Eating Myth #1: Eating fat is bad for you.
The Truth: Eat fat, Soldier! It’s good for you. Just don’t eat too much, and stay away from bad fat. If you want to be healthy, you must have body fat, and you must eat fat. Don’t eat too much, and make sure that the fat you eat is the good stuff. Eliminate the bad fats first. Trans fats and hydrogenated fats are bad news for the body. Stay away from them. Trans fats and hydrogenated fats are almost exclusively found in processed foods. Read the labels and you will quickly learn about the sources of these bad fats. Saturated fats can also be a source of artery-clogging and cholesterol-increasing fats. So where do you get those good fats? You get them from plant products (plant-based oils and nuts). Your best bet is to look for plant-based fats that contain predominantly monounsaturated fats and a lesser amount of polyunsaturated fats. Olive oil fits this description. No more than 30 % of your daily caloric intake should be made up of fat (example: one tablespoon of olive oil has 120 calories). Some athletes, like professional soccer players, actually consciously increase their fat intake to as high as 40% due to special athletic needs.
Let’s take a quick look at what fat is used for in the body:
Stores energy.
- Gives shape to your body.
- Serves as a protective cushion to your skin.
- Insulates the body to reduce heat loss.
- Is a part of every cell membrane in the body.
- Is essential to brain and nerve cells function.
- Serves as a protective cushion around your internal organs.
- Is an integral part of many hormones and other biochemicals, such as Vitamin D.
Eating Myth #2: The best way to lose weight is to cut back on the calories.
The Truth: Exercising and eating right are the best ways to lose excess weight.
The best weight-loss is one where you watch the quantity and quality of food you eat and exercise regularly. If you just reduce calories, especially without exercising, your metabolism will slow down to compensate for the reduction, and your weight-loss strategy is out the window. (See the chapter on “Six Keys to Permanent Weight-loss”).
Increased stress can even cause your body to store more fat. That’s right. Your body has a protective mechanism when it’s stressed by dieting. Merely cutting back on calories without eating healthy or exercising will cause you to lose good, lean, muscle mass. This means that your body has practiced cannibalism on itself and is “eating” your flesh. As you can see, you will actually create a whole array of health issues if you listen to the enemy on this one.
Eating Myth #3: You can eat as much as you want, if you are eating healthy foods.
The Truth: No! Even if you are healthy and exercise regularly, overeating healthy food choices lead to poor performance and reduced energy. After trampling through all the other land mines (= myths) above, this should be an easy one for you. This myth focuses on the quality of food while disregarding the quantity. Truly healthy eating focuses both on the quantity and quality of food.
Eating Myth #4: You can eat whatever you want, if you work out regularly.
The Truth: No! Unhealthy food choices reduce energy and physical and mental performance. Would you ever hear a race-car driver say, “I’m going to put low-octane fuel in that gas tank. After all, this car gets worked regularly.” Performance and energy would suffer and races would be lost. It is no different with the human body. Put low-octane fuel (= unhealthy food choices) in your body, and your performance will suffer. You will have less energy and more health issues. Poor food choices will impact your mood, compromise your immune system, and get your hormones out of whack. Need I say more? Occasional indulgence in food and drink, even if it may be “low-octane fuel,” will probably not negatively impact your overall health. Occasional means no more than once a week.
Eating Myth #5: Eating late at night will cause you to gain extra weight.
The Truth: Eating a regular meal after 8:00 PM does not cause weight gain. If you are hungry and are considering missing a meal because it’s late, by all means, eat something. Weight gain is caused by eating too much and/or not exercising regularly. We all do not have the same schedules, so we have to design our own eating plans. Eat at least three times a day with one or two (unprocessed) healthy snacks, if necessary. We generally want to avoid eating less than an hour before bed only to prevent digestive sleep interruptions, which may result in some very interesting dreams.
Eating Myth #6: Skipping meals is a good strategy to cut back on calories and lose weight.
The Truth: Skipping meals is a one-way ticket to weight gain. Intentionally skipping meals is the fastest way to gain weight and possibly get sick. Your body is smarter than you are and will protest your skipping a meal by slowing that metabolism down so that you won’t lose one single pound of fat.
Eating Myth #7: Eating less than 1200 calories will speed up your weight-loss.
The Truth: Here we go again. This is a myth and will slow your metabolism making you more susceptible to weight gain. See our Intel on Eating Myth #2.

п»їDid you know there are a few simple nutrients that you can take to help you get rid of migraines for good?
If you or a loved one suffers from migraines, you know that most people pop a pill and sleep the pain away in a dark room.
And many of them deal with terrible side effects like hallucinations, weight gain, ulcers, seizures, confusion, dizziness, and nausea because they don’t know there are any safer alternatives.
But the good news is that you can take just three simple nutrients and find relief from migraines right away.
CoQ10 – Researchers from the Head and Pain Unit at the University Hospital Zurich discovered in a clinical trial that 300 mg of CoQ10 daily cuts migraine frequency by half.1
But it’s important to take the right form of CoQ10.
The powdered form of CoQ10 is difficult to absorb. Get either the gel caps or tablets and take them with some kind of fat. CoQ10 is fat-soluble. Take it with a bit of olive oil or fish oil. Or do what I recommend to my patients: Have your CoQ10 with a meal that includes fish, dairy, eggs or meat.
My high-potency CoQ10 formula makes it convenient to take because it is eight times more absorbable than other forms. So, 50 mg of my CoQ10 formula is equal to 200 mg of regular CoQ10.
That means you can take just two of my CoQ10 formula instead of the 10 capsules of regular CoQ10 to get the therapeutic levels you need to fight migraines.
Riboflavin (vitamin B2) – Studies suggest mitochondrial dysfunction causes some migraines. That means that your brain’s energy factories don’t generate enough output. The resulting low energy may cause severe headaches.
High doses of riboflavin increase the energy production in the brain cells and reduce headaches. One study showed that 400 mg of riboflavin a day cut the frequency of migraines in half.2
You can get riboflavin from lots of foods, but quantity becomes a problem. You’d have to eat enormous amounts of liver, nuts, dairy, eggs, seafood and greens to get to 400 mg a day.
So, while you should still eat these foods, I also recommend you supplement your diet with riboflavin. You can find riboflavin (vitamin B2) supplements at your local health food store.
Magnesium – One of magnesium’s main jobs is to tone the blood vessels. Scientists have linked certain types of migraines to problems with blood flow and pressure in the vessels. So if you have low magnesium levels, you could benefit from taking magnesium supplements.3
Add to your daily diet things like green leafy veggies, tree nuts, yogurt, berries, halibut, avocado, bananas, and raisins. But remember that the serving portions of these foods only give you 24 to 90 mg of magnesium.
Studies have shown that a 600 mg a day reduces migraines by up to 41 percent.4
Look for magnesium that is bound to citrate, malate or aspartate. Take it with vitamin B6. It will increase the amount of magnesium that accumulates in your cells. You can find magnesium and B6 at your local health food store.
