Fabio Orsi lives in Taranto in Puglia, but apparently saw the light of day in Naples. He apparently also spent some of his life in Berlin. Since 2005, Orsi has published sound creations that mostly move in the border area between ambient, retroelectronics and free-experimental sound engineering. The retro-electronic component has increased since his stay in Berlin at the latest, so that the more recent works by the Italian also show elements from the tradition of the Berlin school.

This also applies to the "Di lumi e chiarori" released in March 2020, which was recorded between March and June 2019 in Puglia, more precisely somewhere in Salento (the sales of the Italian boot). The album comes in a pretty white cardboard box in which the four CDs are in their own sleeves. Each of them resumes an element of the cover, the yellow of the wall (CD1), the light blue of the sky (CD2), the dark blue of the sea (CD3) and the gray of the wall (CD4). Of course, the material could also have been stored on a double CD, but of course the whole thing looks better, and forms a beautiful and creative work of art.

"Di lumi e chiarori" offers eight expansive pieces of almost 12 and over 23 minutes in length, which slide along in colors and layers, sometimes more freely painting, but often also rhythmically, of pulsating sequential patterns mostly, but sometimes also of subtle percussive inlays. Impressionist, Mediterranean, with a rather warm and airy character, the sounds swayed, which successfully blended cosmic-spacey patterns à la Berlin with playful, Mediterranean tone structures. Baffi Banfi's electronic music once moved in very similar realms (see, for example, "Ma, Dolce Vita"), but Orsi's compositions are sonorous, multi-layered and in some cases also experimental, i.e. more free-form. The ambient component is more pronounced here.

A modern, varied, sometimes hypnotic-repetitive, often also relaxed sound-painting and deeply reflective in voluminous sounds music can be found on "Di lumi e chiarori", which, also in terms of the sometimes emerging percussive lines, to the recent sound creations of Broekhuis, Keller & Schönwälder remember, but come a little more sunny and relaxed, just more southern Italy. But there is never a risk of boredom, at least not with electronics adepts. The album is therefore also highly recommended to the same. - Achim Breiling
